Friday Fun Fact: With the exception of fire (most likely discovered by accident), the earliest source of lighting was made from hollow rocks, large shells, horns, antlers, coconuts, egg shells, or other naturally occurring materials. They were filled with moss or grass and then soaked in animal fat to be used as fuel. Hundreds of these types of primitive lamps have been found in caves in France. The oldest stone lamp was discovered in Fascaux in 1940, and dates about 15,000 years old . . . . . The more you know.

If you're on the fence, here's a great speech about preservation by Nicole Curtis: "100 years from now, your grandchildren are not going to come on a field trip to check out this apartment complex, but they will come by to hear the history of the Healy house, and hear about how there was horse and carriages to bring the materials to this house and build it, and how we fought to save it."

Fun Fact: Around 1780, Swiss chemist, Aimé Argand, invented the Argand lamp--a kind of oil lamp, with a hollow circular wick and glass chimney. It's output was 6 to 10 candela, brighter than earlier lamps, and it required much less frequent trimming of the wick. In France, the lamp is called Quinquet, after Antoine-Arnoult Quinquet, who popularized it in France.

January, 2021 ~ IMPORTANT CHANGES
January 12, 2021
January, 2021: At Out Of The Dark, we support the First Amendment right to freedom of speech, and it seems that our current social media platforms have violated that right. Facebook has purged 800 pages. Twitter has restricted 150,000 users and banned 7,000 others, including the President of the United States. The Parler app was removed by companies such as Amazon, Apple, and Google. Because we feel this is a violation of free speech, we will no longer be using Facebook or Twitter as a social media platform. Once Parler has a new web host, we will continue to use their platform @OOTD. Thank you, and we hope to reconnect with you all soon!

WHAT'S NEW IN STORE?!
Out Of The Dark is now selling essential oils! We know . . . they are not lighting, antiques, or even vintage items, but they ARE amazing!
Truth be told, I personally discovered the benefits of essential oils after I started reading everything I could about NATURAL ways to solve a health problem I was having. I gave the oils a try, and after about two month's time, I did start to notice an improvement with my problem. I continued to research, and it was during that reading that I discovered that essential oils have MANY health benefits, including:
Improves hair and skin
Respiratory benefits
Treats Inflammation
Helps to relieve pain
Alleviates sore throat
Prevents tooth decay
Has antibacterial properties
Boosts immunity
Helps fight infections
Supports digestion
Balances hormones
Improves mood
Relieves vertigo
Relieves joint pain
Relieves migraine headaches
Enables detoxification
Wards off fatigue
Some aid with mental alertness
Others promote a restful sleep
So much more!
Wow! Right?!
Because of my true belief in these products, I decided that Out Of The Dark needed to sell them, too! I hope you will discover the benefits of using these oils, like I have.
PS: They smell great, too!

Oy vey! Our old business page seems to have gotten lost by Facebook (and they want $50 to recover it), so we will be spending way too much time transferring all our old data to this new page. Please help us to rebuild our community, as we had well over 100 followers. We'd greatly appreciate a follow and a share! Thank you!

I can't say I'm really surprised that it has come to this--a storage unit. In the coming week, we will be moving in our stock, and I will be posting photos of some of the goodies we have available. They will all be for sale as-is; however, if you see an item you want to have rewired, we can do that for an extra fee.
In order to come to terms with this new monthly expense, I'm going to loving (and jokingly) call this unit "our storefront." Come check out some treasures! We're located behind the Eat N Park on Banksville Road!
