Rewire Jobs
Yes, we can do rewires. We charge for parts (wire, sockets, insulators, switches, solder, shrink tubing, etc.) as well as labor. Cost of labor depends on how long it takes to rewire the fixture, and how complicated the fixture is. Cost is usually determined on a per-socket basis.
We ask that you pay for the parts prior to our rewiring the fixture, and the time and labor can be paid once the fixture is returned to you. We cannot give an exact quote without seeing the fixture. Below is an estimated breakdown.
Breakdown:
-
Sockets run between 5 and 8 dollars. Porcelain sockets are extra
-
Paper insulators range between 2 to 6 dollar each depending on style
-
Switches (reproduction paddle, brass key, etc.) range between 2 and 8 dollars each
-
Solder is 2 dollars per connection
-
Shrink tubing runs 2 dollars per connection
-
Wire can be between 10 and 20 dollars depending upon length and type. Cloth wire is extra
-
Time and labor (60 dollars per socket)
Note: Due to the sensitivity of brass and other antique metals, we will not clean your fixture, as we can risk losing the valuable patina. Time and labor includes our purchasing your parts, disassembling your fixture, rewiring, testing, and reassembling.
Recap:
A single socket fixture would cost between 23 and 46 dollars in parts, plus time and labor (averaging between 83 and 106 dollars). The more sockets, the more cost. A three-arm chandelier would cost between 73 and 141 dollars in parts, plus time and labor (253-322 dollars).
